Between the Lines…
The words of Aua illuminate the soul’s passage between life and death. In Inuit philosophy, the soul — the tarniq — is no abstraction: it moves, transforms, and ensures continuity beyond the visible world. For the peoples of the polar north, the land is not mere backdrop but a living entity, carrying meaning and memory. Stones, winds, and creatures all reveal the bonds that tie every being to the universal breath. In this vision, the shaman traces a cosmology in which birth, death, and renewal are woven into a continuous cycle — one that calls for humility and a deep respect for the natural world.
